It’s Time To Rant Again

in General Rants

Barack Obama It’s been over six months now where I’ve pretty much left my rants to a bare minimum. The main reason for this was that after years of bitching and complaining about all the things that are wrong in this country, I guess I had somewhat of a hang over from all the getting enraged. Like so many Americans I felt something was accomplished when Obama was elected, after all he’s the first Black President, that’s something to stand for isn’t it?

If you’ve followed my writings, you may know that I’m  a rather cynical person, and when it comes to our Government, or Governments in general skepticism is the best position to have. However because I felt that hanging on to old negative beliefs wouldn’t get us forward I thought why not let my doubts subside for a while and see how things play out.

Holy smokes I just read this over at alternet.org and I have to say that I’m totally for outing Hypocrits, no matter where they are. I’m personally not going to rush to any judgement, but being the cynical person that I am I would see no feeling of surprise overcoming me if all this turns out to be true, and Charlie Christ really is homo sexual.

Do I think Holden will actually go through this? Not really. But if he does, it shows that we haven’t just outsourced our jobs, we’re also forced to outsource our legal decisions because our own system is so flawed.

Bring Back Lionel

The Lionel Show

The Lionel Show

I’ll keep it short for once. I just want to know what the f*@#ing deal is with Lionel not being on the air anymore at Air America. You can see blog posts by him. I can hear Rachael Maddow’s show every day although she doesn’t have an actual show anymore - what gives Air America?

Lionel is one of the more articulate people I’ve ever heard in my life and he’s a joy to listen to if you have the attention span to follow his show. I mean as we speak, type, listen, whatever - there’s a banner ON Air America’s website which is where I just got that image from. The Lionel “Show”, not the Lionel Blog, or here’s Lionel our staff writer - it says the Lionel Show!

You simply can’t look at the numbers in the video without completely cringing when thinking about how this money could be better used. While Americans all across the nation are losing their homes, their jobs and in a lot of cases even hope, we’re paying billions of dollars to send our soldiers into foreign countries to kill. As you can see in the video, the logistical difficulties that come with the terrain of Afghanistan are staggering and the sheer waste and war profiteering are simply unbelievable. Can anyone tell me how this is helping anyone here in the US and moreover, is this war going to get me a job?

So Much For Air America

Listen to Air America
Listen to Air America

I must admit, it pains me to see how Air America is slowly but surely becoming more or less irrelevant. Several years ago, when I was trying to find interesting AM radio stations to listen to, I came across radio stations such as the “Head On Radio Network”, a channel I found through the iTunes radio listings. These stations would either have their own shows, or they would syndicate shows from other talk shows hosts such as Thom Hartmann, Ed Schulz, The Young Turks, and many others. If you’ve been following liberal talk radio, you know that some of these talk shows hosts have gone way beyond their radio shows and now have either national exposure through various Satellite Radios stations, or they’ve even been picked up by some of the Major networks, as is the case with Rachael Maddow and Ed Schulz, both having been with Air America before their move.

During the height of the past Bush Administration, which gave conservative talk shows hosts around the nation justification for their hate speech, Air America was a beacon of hope, as corny as it may sound. When I first started listening to talk radio back on my college days and delivering pizza, the only thing I could ever find on the AM dial was rush and a few other local talk shows. There was certainly nothing to be found on the radio that would represent some kind of liberal alternative to Rush and his cohorts, not counting NPR here since they’re on the FM dial.

For Once I Agree With Glenn Beck

by Arno on April 5, 2009 · 2 comments

in Media

If you’ve been to this site before, you know that I rarely speak highly of Glenn Beck, an example of which can be read here. I think Glenn Beck has proven that too much attention paid to someone as unimportant as him, results in such people going over the top. I mean for the Love of God have you seen his new show “The 9/12 Project?” - that has to be one of the most pathetic things I’ve seen on Television. All that said, I randomly happened to watch the below clip and for once, I have to agree with him.

Don’t even get me started on FPL, I’ve written here, and here that I think FPL are crooks and are squeezing the people of Florida for as much as they can, imposing unfair rules, taking deposits that they hold for months and collect interest on - it’s borderline criminal. The reason they can do this is because they have the monopoly. Add complicit political leaders to the mix and you have a company which is pretty much running its own show here. Judging from the comments left on my FPL posts, I think it’s safe to say I’m not alone with my opinion.

I love the Daily Show. If you’ve never watched it, you’re missing out. Many other media heads like to criticize the Daily Show for the fact that they’re not really covering news, that they’re not really giving political commentary and you know what? Those people are right, after all it’s comedy not politics. It’s very easy to understand the success of this show, if you look at our media landscape today. There isn’t a single news show on TV that gives you the dry facts. Every piece you see is usually followed my special commentators that are supposedly experts in the field but at the end of the day have you really gotten any valuable information from TV? No. If you want to get “real” information you have to turn to independet sources such as Democracynow.org where I truly believe unbiased reporting is at the core of this mission objective.

Let’s get back to Jon Stewart and Jim Cramer though. Check out the video below and watch how Cramer takes a beating from Stewart, from one clip to the next, it’s almost painful to watch.

Click here to watch the original - somehow comedy central’s player embed code isn’t jiving with my template and I’m too lazy to figure that out right now.

Rove Gets Schooled By Vanden Heuvel

by Arno on March 1, 2009 · 0 comments

Watch this great example of Karl Rove being schooled by Katrina Vanden Heuvel. It’s quite amazing to see Republicans get on the air waves and talk about fiscal responsibility and I’m so glad this lady points this out ever so clearly. It all just comes back to what I said in my previous post: Shut Up
