It’s really taken me a while to truly appreciate how it works and I’ve come to the conclusion that it can almost be compared to keyword research. First of all the headlines of the day are usually announced by pretty looking people that in most case don’t really possess any journalistic skills - at least none that I would consider being necessary to be labeled a true investigative journalist.

Myth Busting - Is The U.S. Really Free?
May 9th, 2008 · No Comments
Just to give you some background, I grew up in Germany and moved to this country just in time for George Bush and Co. to completely screw things up. I moved to the US in 1999. At the time, gas was at about $1.30 per gallon and the country was still “cool” for the most part. I don’t have to go into what happened after that, it’s history.
The reason I’m writing this article is to give people some idea of what’s really going on in this country. I know it’s great to go to Disney World (my grandparents used to take us there all the time when I was a kid) and to pretend everything is just fine and dandy, however if you stop and think for a second, moreover stop think and compare our situation to other industrialized countries, it’s easy to see how clueless most people are here.
First of all I don’t really blame most people for their lack of interest. People are busy with getting by that they don’t have time checking on the government. It’s understandable, but very regrettable. I’m going to list a few items that are facts. I was born and raised in Germany, was 100% integrated into German culture, went to German Schools and became a German licensed carpenter in my mid 20’s. I was also unemployed for about a year and guess what? I had full health coverage the entire time.
See the thing in this country is that politicians and companies keep telling you that this is the best country in the world and they would never want to live anywhere else. Yes it’s true, we currently still have the most liberties compared to many countries in the world. However, when I compare let’s say my swimming skills with someone else, I don’t pick someone that’s 300 lbs overweight to measure my abilities - I pick someone of equal stature, so the comparison has any validity. It’s along those same lines that I think it’s lame to compare yourself to 3rd world countries and to then they “we’re better than them”. It’s true that over 90% of the world consists of countries that I wouldn’t even call my favorite travel destination. However the countries I compare the US too are countries like France, Germany, Canada, Luxembourg, Holland, Sweden, Finland, etc (don’t be offended if I left your country out).
It’s common rhetoric to hear that we supposedly have the best health care in the world - that’s a total myth or maybe there’s some more in depth definition needed. When I say health care, I mean health care and not “elite care”. Elite care is care that’s only available to people with enough money, whereas health care I believe should be available to everyone. I know so many voices say that you can’t have socialized medicine because it will bankrupt us, but that is the biggest piece of bullshit I’ve ever heard. In regards to the title of this article, yes we’re free - but we’re pretty much free to deal with it on our own. For me it’s a question of quality of life. Wouldn’t you like to be able to say that you live in the most free country in the world, where all people are taken care of? Do you really believe that this is a move towards Socialism? Because if you do I urge you to cancel your next Disney Vacation and head on over to Europe and watch how people live untroubled lives, not having to worry about health care.
What else do we have that makes us such a free country? Other than the Japanese I don’t think there’s any other industrialized country that has as little vacation as we do. In Germany for example no matter who you are, you get at least four weeks of vacation. How on Earth could any country stand for something like this? It’s called science. The Germans for example early in their history had people that investigated the effect of vacation on productivity and it was determined that human beings are just that much more productive, if they can take some proper time off from the job. So here I am working my ass off to get by and I have 10 days off the entire year. My friends at home laugh at me when I tell them this. “I thought the United States is so free?” - my reply: So did I>
Another example of how you are not free is the police force. Most people here are so used to it that they don’t’ even question it and that’s dangerous in any event. I am not used to, nor will I ever be that Police officers can harass me - that’s Fascism. The police work for us and they are not employed by Black Water and can do whatever they want. I don’t care what crime someone has committed, the moment our Police force turns into the same criminals they’re supposed to protect us from, we’re not talking about Freedom anymore. You may think it’s OK for a police officer to beat up someone if they did something wrong - I don’t. I also don’t believe in the Death sentence which most of the industrialized countries regard as something that can only be attributed to the Middle Ages.
You want another example of how we’re not free? The press. It’s supposed to serve as a whistle blower, an entity that independently uncovers things nobody would find out about if not. Oh wait, they don’t report on the important things do they. I’m pretty well informed on Britney Spears current legal battles for custody over her children, but I don’t see much in the news about how many veterans are coming back FUCKED and how the VA under leadership of this great Republican Government is ruining our soldiers. I have nothing but respect for soldiers and anyone that serves in these tough times and it kills me to see these young people abused to no end.
Lastly, a country can also be judged on its prisons. Why are we locking so many people up? How is that helping us? Why do we jail pot smokers and other non-crimes but we let big corporations get away with ripping off entire states? You call this freedom? - I call it a fucking joke. If you’re going to reply with “well why don’t you go back to where you came from” I guess you’re doing OK - you’re private rights aren’t being infringed upon, I’m sure your kids enjoy world class education, nobody you knows has ever wrongfully been accused of any terrorism charges, etc.
For those of you that don’t believe me I have one suggestion - go on vacation outside of the U.S. for once and take notes. Watch how people live, and see what they worry about and come back and tell me what you saw.

Jazz on MSNBC - Definitely The Best Last Night Coverage
May 7th, 2008 · No Comments
Did I say that I work night shifts? It’s 2:14 AM. Clinton won Indiana by a hair, and Obama annihilated her in North Carolina. I’m watching Dan Abrahams on MSNBC and I must say he’s got the best political coverage show going on at this hour. He called in a live Jazz band for the ambiente! I love it, and I know it has nothing to do with anything but if I flick through the channel I don’t see anyone doing that. I love it - just wish they’d just play the Jazz and shut up ;)
Good night.

Food Riots In Mogadishu While We’re Wasting Millions On Primaries
May 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments
It’s stunning really when you flick through the TV channels tonight. Obama and Clinton are talking about an election, while people in Somalia are rising up, because they can’t afford to buy rice anymore. In Myanmar (check map below) thousands of people have been killed.
I haven’t seen many primaries in my life time since I lived in Germany until I was 27, but I know that with the amount of disasters going on in the world, from our involvement in Iraq, to what’s going in Korea, over to the situation in Pakistan, what might happen with Iran its an incredible waste of time and effort.
The numbers are still changing but in Myanmar they’re expecting over 15,000 deaths already. I know it’s so naive to say this, but wouldn’t it be great if we could deploy truly humanitarian troops? Imagine the effect on our image in the World if we sent in 30,000 troops to help that country recover from their disaster. I know it’s not realistic since the people in power are a military Junta so Humanitarian action is probably not exactly the first priority for them, but I’m sure you catch my drift on this.

If You Work For Fox News You Get To Sell A Book
May 6th, 2008 · No Comments
I hate to start articles out like this, but here I am sitting at work, watching Fox News (I’m waiting for the repeat of Keith Olberman’s Count Down) pretty much because no “news” network like Fox, manages to give so much material to write about.
I’m looking at Oliver North who I guess finally joined the club of those fox members that are publishing a book. I had a cousin that worked at Fox News for a few years and she told me that the overall climate at Fox is that of fear - keeping people in fear of losing their job and other issues. Perhaps that’s why so many people on Fox are pushing their own merchandising campaigns, because they know that they don’t have much time to live at the network or with for that matter.
Here are some of the people I can think of that are selling books on Fox News:
sean hannity
allen colmbes
bill o’reilly
oliver north
john gibson
neil cavuto
North was at the center of national attention during the Iran-Contra Affair, during which he was a key Reagan administration official involved in the clandestine sale of weapons to Iran. The sale of these weapons served both to encourage the release of US hostages and to generate proceeds to support the Contra rebel group. Vice Admiral John M. Poindexter and his deputy, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North secretly diverted to the Nicaraguan Contras millions of dollars in funds received from a secret deal - the sales of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Iran - in spite of Reagan’s public pledge not to deal with the nation.
source: Wikipedia: Oliver North
Now I know Oliver North is an accomplished decorated war veteran and for that anyone deserves the utmost respect. However just because you were in a war zone for many years doesn’t give you the right to act against rules of law or morale. I’m finding so many sources as I do some research for this post that shows what a crook he is and how he’s been involved in shady business tactis, that I think he shouldn’t be seen on TV selling a book, getting a paycheck or anything else for that matter.
Back to my initial point though and that’s the fact that everyone on fox news gets to sell a book. I think it doesn’t help the credibility of a news agency when their employees are pushing their personal products. Bill O’Reilly is of course the biggest whore of them all and please don’t respond and tell me it’s all for charity - we all know that’s not the case. None of these socalled conservatives do anything for the common good, their main objective is to reap most of the benefits of the system without giving back to it. Republicans, as we know from the past twenty years or exploitation, aren’t a group of people with political interests in mind - they only have one thing in mind and that’s profit.

Clinton The New Republican
May 5th, 2008 · No Comments
I’ve been a cynic about the election from day one and when some of my European friends asked me what the chances were that we would get a black President I told them to stop dreaming. Amazingly enough, Barack Obama has indeed inspired so many people that he’s actually ahead of the woman that everyone called the front runner before the race had even begun - Hillary Clinton.
What’s interesting to watch, other than the fact that ABC made complete fools out of themselves during the last televised debate, is how Hillary Clinton is re-adjusting her game as things go. If anyone had said years ago that Clinton would very difficult to distinguish from Senator Mcain, surely many people would have been surprised. Today, it seems normal that Clinton is touting the same kind of rhetoric that our great president has been using throughout the past years. Clinton, when asked how she would react to a nuclear attack against Iran, replied by stating that she would “obliterate” Iran. Nothing like using strategic rhetoric to keep the door of communication open with the rest of the world.
People keep talking about character and how it’s important to them in terms of deciding on the new presidential nominee. I personally don’t think that’s very important but if you do look at what Hillary Clinton has done in her career it’s rather obvious to see what’s going on. She’ll say anything, do anything in order to make her PR campaign known to the nation. She accused Barack of being elitist, but hasn’t pumped her own gas in ages. To me it seems if her marriage really was a strong blow to her, and to make up for it she’s running for president. I wouldn’t have any problem with her running except that i think she’s so damn phony that I have a hard time watching her on TV.
I believe Hillary Clinton has been in Washington for so long, that she knows how to pander to certain groups of people. Now of course she’s pandering to the right, and I hope to some deity that she doesn’t become the nominee. Thinks are looking good but who knows.
I wonder what she will say next to move another step closer towards fulfilling her dream, not that of the United States.
