Freedom’s Watch My Ass

by Arno on August 23, 2007

I watched MSNBC’s Hardball the other night and today Rhandi Rhodes happen to have been talking about the same thing I saw on TV. Arif Fleischer, the former press secretary of the White House was on promoting his new project. I can only agree with Rhandi Rhodes when she says that he left his post rather swiftly when his name got involved in the whole Plame Affair . Now that some time has passed he’s trying to make it up again to the Republican party by campaigning for them and raising funds.

Thou Shalt Not Kill?

by Arno on August 23, 2007

Ok I’m going to keep this simple. Never should human beings have the power to decide over another human being’s lives. Not in war, but mainly also not in peace times. I love how we as a country always pride ourselves with such high levels of social, technological and economical advancements, yet we hold on to the death penalty like it’s the last straw between us and crime. The reality is this - the death sentence doesn’t deter people. If you make people’s lives bad enough so won’t care what penalty is awaiting them - they will only look at the short term.

In Texas you can even get put to death by the state even if you didn’t actually commit the crime like in the case of Kenneth Foster. I don’t have any money to donate nor am I going to fly down there to support his family. The best I can do from here is to devote a post to the fact that death penalty is just so absurd that I keep finding it suprising that some (a lot?) of people in this country see it as the ultimate tool of justice. Again I have this reoccurring thought in my head which is that all this has been said a million times no this website or another, but hey while I’m at it I thought I’d put in my two cents. It’s just incomprehensible to me that anyone would even make the argument for the death penalty. Yes, I agree war is a whole different story and if we were strict about it we would admit to ourselves that that doesn’t add up morally either. However we’re talking about us deciding when another human is supposed to stop living and I just don’t think that anyone should have that power. I don’t care who you are.

Lost, Again

by Arno on August 7, 2007

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse the democrats help pass a bill that will, sit tight, put on your helmet, yes it will increase the president’s ability to spy on the American Population. As if there were any measures in place now that oversee any of this activity. Oh wait - I’m wrong - we have an overseer of this surveillance program - Gonzales!! Here’s an article from the NY Times about his strong abilities.
