Fix a fuel gauge in a 81 mirada.

Anyone know why a fuel gauge on a 81 dodge mirada would stop working all the other gauges work and fuses are ok. Ive pulled it out and put it back in to make sure the connections are tight. It has ribbon cable behind the dash so I can't check the wires. So if anyone has one of these cars and has had to fix this please let me know what you did and how to do it. Dropping the tank is the last thing i want to do but if that's what it takes i will but I figured it would be better to ask here before I do that. Parts for this car are hard to find so I cant just replace everything till it works.

pull out the owners manual, check the fuse for the gauge. While you're there, check all the fuses. if this is the only gauge that stopped,take out the back seat , there is a cover above the fuel tank, make sure all the connections are good.
