America Redeems Itself

by Arno on November 5, 2008

I can almost not believe it that we’re going to have the first Black President in US History. I mean I’m an optimist and when talking to family members over the past few months I kept assuring them that too many people are going to go out and vote, making it very hard for criminals such as Karl Rove to steel it, and fortunately I was right. I’m honestly not sure what I would have done if McCain had won, the implications of such a victory would have been devastating for my view of the world.

Ever since I came to this country to live here in 1999 I kept telling myself that it couldn’t be true, that so many Americans really support the fascist-lite type government we had. I kept telling myself that too many bought into the fear factor after 9/11 and that most people were smarter than believing a lot of the lame arguments the Republicans have been making over the past years. What’s more, it’s not that we just had a horrible foreign policy which only served for the enrichment of the military industrial complex but we have government which is infested by appointments made by George Bush, which overall are either incompetent or simply have too much loyalty to George Bush. From the EPA to FEMA, the last few years have shown us that competence ranked second when it came to the nomination of personnel that was loyal to the Bush Administration.

The current Administration has broken many records, none of which it should be very proud of. From the largest amount of spying on its own citizens, to the most torture committed, over to waging the most war and giving the least amount of credence to science, everythign this government did was against what most people call the rules of common sense.

With Barack’s election comes the opportunity for America to redeem itself, the opportunity to show the world what type of people we really are. Of course I’m not only concerned about our reputation in the world, but it should make any American think if literally the entire world is against us. I have too many friends back at home in Germany that simply see us as the bad guy and I’m simply sick of it. With Barack I hope we can put some reason back int our foreign policy, regain our status in the world and start building the country we all want to live in.

Where I’m ecstatic that McCain and the rest of the criminal Republican party won’t have another chance to screw this country, I hope Barack will be able to maintain his course of action and start restructing the government so it can benefit all of us.
