Primaries - Everyone Was Wrong

by Arno on January 9, 2008

I’m sure nobody’s even watching the primaries. That’s a sad thing really considering we’re coming up on what’s probably one of the most important elections in ages. Over the past few weeks I’ve been watching the happenings on TV and all I can say is: premature. First of all these are just the primaries and they’re getting more attention than a NASCAR race. Secondly everyone and their mother is of course now a political “pundit” a “pollster” or “political strategist” and each one of them seems to know exactly how everything is going to play out in the primaries.

In Iowa things went haywire after Huckabee won there. So what? Last time I checked Iowa has less than 3 million people living there and the ones that do live there are White rural folk - no offense to you them what so ever please. The point here is of course that the State to me is of no significance. So why is the media giving it so much attention? Because for many years Iowa, out of whatever crazy reason has become an indicator on how the actual elections will turn out. To me it sounds like a statistical fluke that I personally wouldn’t even go into any further in terms of trying to find a deeper meaning. Obama made a strong stand in Iowa and was considered the winner of the event on the democratic side.

After Iowa, the strategists, pundits and pollsters they had all the necessary data to start making new type of predictions. Two days ago the only thing you could see on TV was how Hillary cried, how they’re campaign is out of money, how they’re so desperate they’re sending out email campaigns to help raise more money. Today of course that situation is completely different because guess what? She went on to win New Hampshire. So listen up people in the media - just report for a change. Why don’t you keep your mouth shut for a while and just do your job - report the data, deliver it - spare me with your commentary. Spare me with your insider knowledge that you think you have and just be professional and to the point for a change.

So again, everyone - literally everyone was wrong and stupid like I was I actually watched the coverage for a few hours. It’s almost like watching game 3 of the regular baseball season - there’s still sooooo much more to go and I don’t even know why anyone cares at the moment.
