Nazis In The US?

by Arno on November 24, 2007

I’m a strong supporter of most of the things that I read on alternet.org and currently there’s an article up there that really brings some of the points I’ve been putting forward in discussions with people in my area. The article can be viewed here. The article basically deals with the fact that we’re slowly but surely moving steadily in the direction of fascism. As a matter of fact we’re much further along in the progress that many will realize and there lies the main problem - people don’t realize.

As the author suggests history repeats itself, and I can only second that. I personally was borned and raised in Germany and for those of you who have any doubts on whether the Germans teach their students about the holocaust - rest assured knowing that this is something nearly every grade level experiences to the fullest. I remember watching a concentration camp video when I was in 9th or 10th grade. The pictures were of bulldozers pushing piles and piles of human bodies in front of them - it was quite horrid to see the atrocities that had been committed. Where I personally didn’t feel much shame since I didn’t have any family involved in the war it was still shameful just to be a human being at the time of viewing that documentary.

In 1999 I came to the US and where many might argue that we as a country were already on a steady downhill slope, the overall global view on the US still wasn’t as bad as it is currenty. The US was seen as a corporate power and Gulf War I was still freshly in everyone’s mind, but Bill Clinton was president and as far as I’m concerned things were still OK.

What we experienced then is what I consider a coup in the modern sense. The current Bush administration had come to power and shortly after 9/11 we started experiencing legislative measures that were supposedly put in place to protect out homeland security. Wiretapping, Detension and various other items started to become regular procedures for the United States. As Naomi Wolf points out so correctly, we are slowly seeing steps being taken by our government which are common traits of fascist dictatorships. With my background, I’ve seen this progress go on for years and was always astounded by the fact that very few people seem to be picking up on this trend. Beyond picking up on this trend, I’ve often felt in the past few years we could be experiencing the same occurrences that led to the full Nazi takeover in 1933. At what point did people say it’s time to get out? I’ve already told my girlfriend that if out of whatever crazy reason the republicans win another election, it’s time to get out.

To me it all seems so very clear, history is right in the process of repeating itself, right in front of our eyes and there’s nothing anyone can do about it - is that how it works? The Nazis are here, and they’re using the same style retoric, the same style defamation, the same style intimidation as the Nazis did before WWII. The American people are asleep at the wheel and if more people don’t start waking up to this it might all to too late very soon.
