Of course everyone knows that the real interest the media has in the elections isn’t delivering the information the people need to make an educated decision on the respective candidate, but getting good ratings, selling ad space for more money, etc.
I wonder sometimes who sits in these editing rooms at the big news station. I’d really like to be a fly on the wall over at MSNBC when they decided what to call Super Tuesday. As it’s the American theme, nothing is big enough. I’ll give you a simple example: Audio. In Germany, the smallest audio is referred to as the “Audio 80″ - it’s a classic model and has been around for nearly 20 years I believe. In the US, that same car is referred to as the “Audio 4000″ - it’s the exact same car. My conclusion, and I really have nothing to back this up other than my gut feeling is that everything has to be multiplied by 50-100 here to be impressive.
So, back to MSNBC and the editors sitting around and deciding what to call Super Tuesday. Obviously “Super” isn’t an adjective that gives this election cycle enough oomph, so what are they calling Super Tuesday? VOTE ZILLA!!! Oh man that cracks me up I tell ya. I certainly understand that this election will have more meaning than most in our history, due to the amount of destruction this country has seen over the past seven years. First of all, and I think there isn’t any attention paid to this: this isn’t even a real election process as far as I’m concerned. The media routed out all the candidates that had anything of substance to bring into the campaign trail. Chris Dodd dropped out and it was reported that he didn’t have the charism or motivation needed for campaigning? No name recognition. Let me remind everyone that this isn’t a vote for most popular in High School. This is an election where we’re trying to elect someone who’s competent, experienced and knows how to work the system. Instead we’re getting a contest that is so ridden with flaws that it’s almost hurtful to watch.
Beyond the fact this election is a farce since nobody thought it was important enough get rid of all Diebold driven voting machines, we have many other issues that I think will be ignored once the next Democratic President takes over the reign of the White House in January. What I mean is that most Presidents when they take office, don’t spend a whole lot of time in the past. They don’t want to be cleaning up someone elses mess, but rather start working “in the future” when it comes to goals for the country. I love the future, and no matter what I’m always looking forward to it because in the future everything is unpredictable and things change all the time. However, if something in the past needs cleaning up, then I’d rather start building for the future on a clean slate - and not base my operation on a foundation that is ridden with holes and ultimately represents a vulnerability towards morality for this country.
