Freedom’s Watch My Ass

by Arno on August 23, 2007

I watched MSNBC’s Hardball the other night and today Rhandi Rhodes happen to have been talking about the same thing I saw on TV. Arif Fleischer, the former press secretary of the White House was on promoting his new project. I can only agree with Rhandi Rhodes when she says that he left his post rather swiftly when his name got involved in the whole Plame Affair . Now that some time has passed he’s trying to make it up again to the Republican party by campaigning for them and raising funds.

The aired his TV spot which in itself already infuriated me. I’m so sick of the propaganda from these ideologues that themselves have zero concept of what it means to actually fight a war. Instead they’re out there promoting war and more killing on the backs of the American people. Not only was the spot filled with the same old rhetoric that we’re already used to (they attacked us, connection between iraq and 9/11 etc) but to my great surprise Ari Fleischer didn’t even know the name of the soldier they were featuring in the ad. When asked about his name he just said that there were four individuals who were part of the campaign. Not that I would have been won over of the concept if he had known the name of the soldier, but not knowing it surely should lack of caring on his side.

It just shows what type of people we have to put up with when it comes to the ones pushing most for the war. One of the slogans I keep hearing is that we’re fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them there, or we’re fighting this fight so our children have a safe future. Let me tell you something - picking a fight with everyone and their brother isn’t exactly what I call securing the future. If we were to engage in cutting our ties from resources that are outside of the US we wouldn’t have these problems to begin with. “But we need the oil!!!” - Oh right I forgot about that response. Do we really need the oil? Yes of course we do - but the more we need it and the less available it gets, wouldn’t you think this is the perfect time for looking for other strategies? Of course not. Lobbyists for large corporations aren’t interested in anything that would cause them to change anything because that equates to cost.

So where Ari Fleischer is beating the war drum (he’s served right?), kissing up the Republican Party I just sit back and watch and wait to see if anyone else besides me thinks this is a crock.
