CEO’s get severance packages that are larger than most people earn in their life time and our President who has failed on just about anything you can imagine gets standing ovations. Honestly, I don’t know what time zone George W. Bush is living in but it sure felt like he was pretending to be somewhere 3-4 years ago. As if he still had time to see his ‘vision’ come true, he talked about the dangers we face as a country and how congress had to pass the laws he suggested.
It’s almost too frustrating to write about this because the mere concept of having to think this through, once again reminds of how screwed we are. The President held a State of the Union Address and all I can think of is the fact that he can’t be talking about my State, nor the Union of it. George W. Bush has managed to bring corruption and lies to the government to a level that is unprecedented. Documentaries such as “Sicko”, “Iraq for Sale”, “9/11 Fahrenheit”, come and go and nothing really seems to shake up this country. Yes, many people express their dismay about things, but it’s still too cozy for many people to complain.
When I watched the Address the thing that astonished me the most, was the fact that the congress kept clapping. What part of his achievements makes anyone cheer? The fact that we owe most of our financial assets to other countries? The fact that we’re ignoring the rest of the World in its quest for a more environmentally friendly approach for the future? Or is the reason for all the joy the fact that we’re winning the “War on Terror”? I want to know what all the joy was about, I want to clap too!
