Turbo Carrera In The News

Porsche GT2 RS

What is this sports car? A $260,000 Porsche 911, using 516lb ft and 611bhp. The Porsche GT2 RS the quickest 911 ever to leave the manufacturing plant. Its only purpose seems to be putting every Porsche customizer out of business. Technical specs? The base engine is similar to the 997 GT2 (which is no longer produced), but runs different turbo chargers, new intercoolers, brand new pistons as well as a new engine management system to run 1.6 bar of boost, over the last automobiles 1.4 bars. Stated overall performance is of the what-the-hell range with 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, 0-100mph in 6.8 seconds and a Ring lap of 7min 18 seconds.

The chassis is essentially slightly up-rated GT3 RS, and that is a quite reliable base. You'll find a few changes to suit that turbo application and also for even better response the rear axle has much more solid linkages than the Porsche GT3 RS. Aerodynamically, it is very similar to the 997 GT2, but operates a new splitter, brand new rear extractor and an extra gurney on the back wing. Doesn't sound like very much, but it nearly has as much downforce as the Porsche GT3 RS.

What is it like to drive this GT2? Comedy quick. I jumped out of a brand new Porsche Cayman S in to this thing and, at very first, asked ourselves what the fuss was really all about. Getting turbocharged, it doesn't make very much sound and it's so easy to drive at reduced speed, rides so well, that you treat it like any standard Porsche 911. The buckets are identical to the GT3 RS's, the dash is plain 911, there's far less induction sound than you get in the generally aspirated automobiles. It's actually all a little unsatisfactory until you open the tap in 3rd and the car drags the horizon on to your forehead.

There is no PDK option, only a robust, short-throw manual. The time clock would have anyone believe that a Turbo S is quicker to 62 and also as fast to 100mph, but, as ever, the clock lies. This automobile is different-world quick to the Porsche Turbo S. And of course it is a challenge for the driver. No other turbocharged Porsche 911 comes near to giving the chassis stability that this vehicle does.

You turn, it truly grips, the motor lunges, the front axle grips more, and then the insane traction takes over on the exit of turns. Also, the steering is spectacular. Drive it quick, use its potential for a few minutes and you must back-away before the numbers really get silly. The traction and balance management calibration is a masterstroke: you can employ so much of the performance, so much of the time. It's freakishly comfy as well. Sometimes a low speed bump elicits a creak from those back rose-joints, otherwise it rides no more harshly than a Porsche Carrera on sports suspensions.

How does it really compare? It's quicker, more useable and also far cheaper than a 599 GTO. But then it does not feel as exclusive, isn't lathered in as much carbon and is almost mute compared to the musical Fandango. Neither the Lamborghini LP670 SV or Bentley Continental GT are as quick or as capable. But once again they both trounce the GT2 RS for sheer drama.

Questions about Turbo Carrera

How much would a brand new Porsche 911 turbo carrera coat?

In the U.S. the starting price for a 2010 911 Turbo coupe is $135,500 (http://www.porsche.com ). A cabriolet will set you back at least $146,800. Keep in mind that few cars actually come over in base form. Any 2010 coupe you buy will likely be listed closer to $140,000, and any cabriolet close to $150,000.

If money is no object, the 2011 Turbo S coupe starts at $160,700, and the Turbo S cabriolet at $172,100. These Porsches come standard with the lightning fast seven-speed PDK transmission, and just about every other option Porsche has.

Road and Track says the Turbo S coupe is just as fast, 0 to 60 mph, as a $1.5M Bugatti Veyron - 2.6 seconds (http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/car/2011-porsche-911-turbo-s-to-the-power-of-12 ). Motor Trend, however (October 2010), measured it at 2.7 seconds, making it only the second fastest car they have ever tested - after the Veyron.

Porsche says it takes 3.1 seconds for the Turbo S to get to 60 mph. Porsche is known for under-promising and then over-delivering.

There are still some 2009 and 2010 new cars on lots around the country. It's well worth your traveling to purchase one of these at lower prices.

Porsche 911 Turbo S Darien available to select buyers

As the owner of a Porsche, I often wonder why their friends and family around the world would spend that much for a car of my local dealer Darien Porsche. I try to explain my love for the vehicle and do not include just not. But if I'm honest, which is much they do not understand because your opinion does not change my feelings. Unless the love of Porsche, we never understand, until you own a Porsche can not be judge by spending money, because you do not know not how it feels to drive.
If my family and friends think I'm crazy to spend about $ 80,000 for a Porsche 911 Darien, so I can not imagine what they say when they hear what people spend in the last vehicle of the brand, the Porsche 918 Spyder.

At the Geneva Motor Show 2010, Porsche surprised everyone by unveiling the brand new Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid plug-in. As there was no response as positive in the vehicle, the brand confirmed last summer that would put the hybrid production, and finally we have a number to put next to the hybrid - $ 845 000. You read it $ 845 000! Production will begin September 18, 2013 (09.18.13) and limited to only 918 models. Orders to be taken now at the Darien local Porsche Dealer, but I think it's safe to say that I will not try to buy that!

The Porsche 918 Spyder to be powered by a 3.4 liter V8 engine. The engine produces 500 horsepower and complemented by three electric motors that provide an additional 218 horses force. Spyder gearbox will be a 7-speed side of the property of Porsche double clutch system supplying power to the axle back. The hybrid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 km per hour. The vehicle even recorded Nürburgring in a time of 7 minutes and 30 seconds, beating the legendary Carrera GT for two seconds!

Porsche recently announced that 918 buyers get additional benefits. As an added bonus, buyers can purchase the 911 Turbo S "918 Spyder Edition." Only available to buyers of 918 are also limited to a maximum of 918 units. The special edition will be available as a coupe or convertible and "acid green" emphasis on creating badges, mirrors, seats, board, and instrumentation, as well as the corresponding brake calipers. Other special touches include a plaque on the glove with the serial number of the 918 Spyder Leather interior full, and the elements carbon fiber.

I am very excited about the next Porsche 918 Spyder and Porsche 911 S "918 Spyder Edition" and keep you informed of all details as they continue to appear. As to my family and friends, I know I do not understand my love and that's fine with me. When I get behind the wheel of my Porsche 911 Darien and feel the thrill of the race, does not matter!

Which car is faster? A. ...?

Which car is faster? 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe Turbo petrol engine with a 6-cyclinder or the 2000 Dodge Viper GTS 2-Dr. V10, 6 speed?

911 is waaayyy faster. The car can comfortably cruise 130 mph. The Viper on the other hand was designed both 00-60 and 1 / 4 mile. Few countries made American cars can handle high speeds for long periods of time. I lived in Germany for 8.5 years as the C5 Corvette was released from there, it was found that transmission did not like the speed cruise that much. One boy I spoke with was in his three transsexual, he swore never buy an American car again.
