The US Guide On Lettings Terrorists Win

by Arno on April 14, 2008

When I heard of the attack on the World Trade Center, I was on mIRC talking to friends in Germany. I didn’t have TV service at the time so I had to go over to the neighbor and watch the footage there. One of the very first links that was passed around after 9/11 was this one:

Terrorists Win

First of all, for those people that don’t get the picture, it’s a screenshot from one of the most popular multiplayer games ever - Counter Strike. The game consists of a rather simple scenario - Terrorists are locked in somewhere and the opposing team has to go in and complete the objective - which in every case consists of killing the terrorists and keeping them from installing and detonating a bomb. Every time the terrorists win, the screen shows the map that was played on, in addition to the text that you see in the 9/11 picture. Of course there was never a game that looked like that - this was a montage that couldn’t have fit any better.

I’m not sure where the original link came from, but it was definitely not from anyone I knew in the US. Considering how fresh the “wound” was I think it would have been difficult to find anyone at the time that would have agreed with the statement of the picture. I’ve always had a rather critical view of the world, not just the United States, and even for me that picture seemed a bit harsh.

Fast forward to now, the year 2008. Seven years have gone by where we’ve had to listen to the shallow retoric of the Republicans trying to make one argument after another for war. 4,000 men have been lost, oil prices are through the roof, Airlines are going broke, our economy is completely in the dumps - could Bin Laden have asked for anything more? I won’t get all conspiratorial on you by claiming that this was the intention all along, but that point definitely has to be raised. What’s even more interesting to observe, is the fact that Bush actually says that terrorists will win if democrats are in power. I have some news for your Mr. President: The Terrorists have won - I’m just still trying to figure out who the terrorists are.

It’s almost like a the Bear knocked himself in the face with a sledge hammer while trying to kill the bee around his nose.

Fox Bashes Fox - Chris Wallace Criticizes Fox And Friends

by Arno on March 24, 2008

I had to watch this twice and pinch myself various times to confirm that what I was watching was actually true. Chris Wallace, on camera, live tells Fox and Friends that he’s unhappy with how they distorted all facts about Barack Obama’s speech on Tuesday. What’s next, Cheney admitting he was wrong?

Thanks to the great people at www.mediamatters.org for capturing this great moment in TV history.

WWII Took Five Years So Why Are We Still In Iraq?

by Arno on March 20, 2008

Let’s give it up for Keith Olberman who is tirelessly pointing out what really should be very obvious - We’re not winning and we’re ruining our Country economically with this war. World War II was over in 6 years and our involvement was even less than that. The invasion of Normandy which can be considered one of the large battles in modern times, was a logistical nightmare and cost thousands upon thousands of soldiers their lives.

Why Experience Isn’t Needed To Be President

by Arno on February 20, 2008

It’s 6:24 AM and I’m watching Morning Joe on MSNBC. Joe Scarborough, although I don’t agree with his arguments most of the time, is at least someone I can listen to because he’s credible. He served in the Florida State Congress, why he left and landed on MSNBC I don’t know. What I do know is this. George W. Bush had less experience in Politics than my Mom does with computers and my Mom can barely move her mouse over the screen without causing severe errors.

KBR Rape Victim Testifies Before House Judiciary Committee

by Arno on December 24, 2007

It’s hard to digest this one. This woman got gang raped by Dick Cheney’s company. Just so you have some comparison in Germany the minister of defense got ousted after he took a government plane and flew on vacation with it. He was then photographed by the pool with a young woman. That was the end of that politicians’ career. In the US - a company’s employees can rape a woman and keep the story bottled up for two years and there’s barely any outcry. Tell me republicans, is this what you call supporting the troops? Are you OK with the fact that our tax payer dollars are paying the people that raped this woman? Have you no shame at all? Remember this when you go to Church tonight and you pretend to be a Christian thinking person.

The Global Thought Police

by Arno on December 5, 2007

Iran was dangerous. Iran is dangerous. Iran will be dangerous if they have the knowledge to make a nuclear weapon

If I tore a piece of hair from my head every time I hear something from the Bush administration that utterly boggles my mind I’d be wearing a good ole meat helmet I think. It’s pretty unbelievable that the president didn’t face a barrage of questions after the briefing. Realistically it surprises me nobody just laughs out loud and starts holding their stomach because they can’t believe the horse manure coming out of the white house.

Let’s take a short step back here for a second and examine what’s going on. Bush and Cheney are hell bent on bombing the crap out of Iran. They have probably already put the CIA into the country to pick out strategic targets, come up with a flawed contingency plan and all the other proper prep work that went into the preparations for the Iraq war. As reported before here the dangers of striking in the middle east are very clear.

Also, for those of you that aren’t quite aware of it, we already attacked Iran this century. Not directly of course, but with the help of our CIA we helped spark a revolution in that country which turned the country into the radical islamic state it is today. As a matter of fact they’re not even that radical. As Obama mentioned at a presidential debate today in Iowa, the majority of people in Iran oppose the ruling Elite and are much more likely to lean towards the west, if given the chance. Instead of galvanizing the people of that country behind their government we should do everything we can not to have them see the US as an enemy, if that’s even possible.

I understand that we live in times where every bit of information that comes out is accused of being politicized by either party. However how can anyone claim that when the current National Intelligence Estimate gets releases, which is comprised of the contribution of 16 different intelligence agencies that this isn’t serious information.

John Bolton, our former UN ambassador who’s known around the world for his diplomatic skills (I kid) was interviewed on Fox News where he said that the report shouldn’t be taken the wrong way and that by all means we shouldn’t let up on the pressure with Iran.

So, to sum things up what we’re talking about here is that we are on the road of denying countries the “idea” of having something. Last time I checked that’s pretty comparable to the thought police. I just find that the intellectual integrity of this discussion has dropped down so low that a fifth grader could make a better argument than our government can currently.

Don’t believe the Facts, just believe us. That seems to be the current mantra. Doesn’t matter that tons of other countries in the world have nuclear weapons, we’re supposed to be worried about Iran. Surprisingly O’reilly today on his ‘factor’ even agreed that the last thing we need right now is another war to get sucked in to. How sad is it that I say it’s a good thing that O’reilly agrees on something. Wow.

Cheney ‘94: Invading Baghdad Would Create Quagmire

by Arno on November 21, 2007

This video isn’t new to me, however it was pretty astounding when I saw it the first time. At the time of Gulf War I I was still living in Germany and wasn’t as familiar with American Foreign Politics as I am now that I’ve lived here for over 8 years.

It’s just amazing how Cheney, over 10 years ago was able to so precisely describe what the situation is like now. Actually it’s not that amazing - what’s amazing is that we let him get away with it. By we I mean the media - I unfortunately don’t have direct access to politicans otherwise I’d probably ask them a question or two.

In case you want to see other deja vu items - check out the band ‘Consolidated‘ - they have a song on their 1993 album which talks about the media culture in the US, how CNN is the spokesperson and advertisement channel for the government, etc. The funny thing is that although that band’s music is over 14 years old, the lyrics match what’s going on today. One of the only differences is that Fox news have taken over being the government sanctioned bull horn.
