My Letter To Ari Fleischer and Brad Blakeman

by Arno on November 5, 2008

I‘m actually not writing a letter to either of the two, however this post is what I would say to them if I were to do so.

Dear Ari and Blake,

I have watched both of you make the case for more Republican rule of this country and today I’m happy to say that the Republican crony style of doing things has been revoked. Where for years you could claim to win the argument, whether it was from economics, to foreign policy you kept thinking you were right. Today the voters went to the polls and told you that you and all your criminal cohorts are wrong, and that it’s time for you to pack up and go home.

America Redeems Itself

by Arno on November 5, 2008

I can almost not believe it that we’re going to have the first Black President in US History. I mean I’m an optimist and when talking to family members over the past few months I kept assuring them that too many people are going to go out and vote, making it very hard for criminals such as Karl Rove to steel it, and fortunately I was right. I’m honestly not sure what I would have done if McCain had won, the implications of such a victory would have been devastating for my view of the world.

Michelle Bachmann and the Faces of Fascism

by Arno on October 20, 2008

Take a close look at this woman and what she said on Friday on MSNBC’s hardball.

It’s people like this that help divide this country. Women like her that are too dumb to grasp the historical context in which they are operating - not that it has anything to do with her gender, there are plenty of male colleagues that aren’t any better than her. How she can look straight into the camera and call for an “expose” on anti-american positions is completely beyond me. How about taking a look at the people that are bankrupting this country and have been doing so for the past thirty years. I hate anyone calling anything anti-american but if I was to do so, wouldn’t bankrupting this country be high on the list of items that could be considered anti-american? Isn’t it utterly anti-american to rip million of people off and steal their pension funds from them? Isn’t it anti-american to promise consumers loans that the lender knows they can’t afford but issues anyway so he can make some money? Are all those items anti-american too?

It’s Getting Ugly Out There, McCain Feeds The Blood Hounds

by Arno on October 15, 2008

As far as I’m concerned McCain can pack his bags and go home and finally retire. Nothing coming out of his campaign shines a good light on him and the incidents during recent campaign events are showing that Steve Schmidt and others who are running his campaign simply have nothing left in their toolbox of dirty tricks.

As you can see (I mean hear) in the clip, someone answers to McCain’s statements with a badly audible “Kill Him” and I personally heard another clip where he was called an Arab, and a Terrorist.

A Citizens Guide To Staying Informed

by Arno on September 30, 2008

I have always been into anything that’s related to computers, so I find new applications, new methods of communication, and other social experiments rather exciting. I’ve used every messenger tool out there, have used several different email platforms, I reap the benefits of audio and video podcasts, I stay up to date with my favorite sources of information via RSS feeds, the list goes on.

This isn’t a post dedicated to how great of a computer geek I am, this is dedicated to those people who aren’t entirely up to date on how easily you can get to the information you’re looking for. The reason I’m telling you this is because I hope to show you just how easy it is to do your fact checking, assuming you’re interested in doing so.

Sources

First of all here are some websites to get you started, as they both deliver unbiased information. By unbiased information I mean that we’re literally talking about transcripts here. No commentary, on spin, just the plain and simple direct copy of what the respective people have said.

1. www.mediamatters.org

2. www.factcheck.org

Methods

If you don’t always have the time to check these websites for information, you can stay updated to their content by means of RSS feeds, or email subscriptions. Nowadays most websites feature this ability.

A great way of collecting RSS feeds and reading their content is by using www.bloglines.com. It’s a free service and a great way of keeping your feed organized.

If instead you’d rather receive the updates via email, simply go to your favorite site and look for something that says “email updates” or “subscribe to newsletter”. Just like here on www.meranting.com you can click on the RSS icon and it will result in you having to confirm your subscription.

The American Dream, or the Induced Coma

by Arno on September 21, 2008

I was born in 1972 in the North of Germany. It is located in the center of Europe and has hundreds of years of civilization on its back, as many other European countries do as well.

Germany made it through a Revolution, and two World Wars, the second of which nearly wiped the country out. The second World War was started mainly because a lunatic called Adolf Hitler managed to rise to power and was able to build a regime, which had extremely radical views of the world to say the least.

A Religious Campaign Ad Done Right

by Arno on September 20, 2008

I don’t think Religion has an place in politics and what I mean by that is that leaders shouldn’t be influenced by it, nor should they look at any of our foreign policy issues as based on what it says in that book. My grandfather was a methodist minister his entire life, and he was very committed to that mission. In my entire life, I can’t remember him approaching me and trying to lay the religion on me. Instead, he proved to me what Religion really is, and should be: a rule book on how to be compassionate. When he was in his 70’s, he was still delivering meals to the needy, as part of the Church program he ran. This to me, is religion and that’s why I think this political ad is true and will be effective.

Andrew Sullivan, Please Shut Up and Go Home

by Arno on September 20, 2008

I’m sitting here watching one of my favorite shows, Bill Maher’s “Real Time” on HBO and when I see Andrew Sullivan speak, my blood starts boiling. In case you don’t know who Andrew Sullivan is, I really had no knowledge of him prior to seeing him on the round table of Maher’s show either. What I do know is that he was on the show years ago and was for the Iraq War and somehow he thinks his changing his mind on it is some kind of sign of his greatness - it’s not.

Bush Accuses Russia of Bullying and Intimidation

by Arno on August 17, 2008

You do have to wonder whether Bush and his fellow gang of crooks and thieves just figure that at this point nobody’s paying any attention, because if they were, blow backs would have occurred already. In light of that I guess it’s not surprising that Bush comes out and accuses Russia of striking back too hard on Georgia. Where he gets the nerve to accuse anyone of anything is beyond me quite frankly but I digress.
