The Fascinating History Of The Porsche Car Company

Many car manufacturers had interesting beginnings and Porsche is no exemption. The founder was Ferdinand Porsche, who was an important man for the Wehrmacht, the unified armed forces in Germany. As an auto engineer, he produced more than a thousand patents and during the 1920's was the chief engineer at Mercedez-Benz. Right after Porsche left Mercedez-Benz, he established an engineering workshop and also designed the Volkswagen. He had been chief of operations in the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg and was interned there by the Allies toward the ending of World War II.

Many years after he was released, Ferdinand Porsche and his son, Ferry, started creating the Porsche 356. The specific sports car was similar to the Volkswagen with a rear-mounted, four-cylinder boxer engine. He was the individual that made the new style of closed coupe, and due to the fastback, it had become the embodiment of the sports car. Komenda extended the fastback with Porsche's grandson by designing the 911. The 911 grew to be a Porsche star with its sloping bonnet, frog eye headlights, sleek curves along with a straight waistline. While the style was much like the first Porsche, technically, it turned out more like the BMW 1500. Even so the design had not been easily appreciated initially, the 911 became the identity of Porsche. 

The company almost collapsed during the 1970's and 1980's when current designers were trying to get away from what made Porsche famous.  Cars such as the 928 and the 924, which were equally co-developed with Volkswagen, failed to capture the imagination of the auto industry. But in the 1990's, the company realized that the classic designs were timeless and that resulted in a revival to profitability. Take a look at tippmann 98 custom. Additional developments of the long-running 911 now were being done by almost forty people in the design department. The 911 GTI is just one example, which had been went by Porsche's in-house designer, Anthony R Hatter. It is an awesome blend of racing prowess and sports car sensibilities.

Porsche has experienced a long history and was able to overcome some very lean years to turn into profitable again.
